Mirror

He looked back
onto a time he once loved.
Swimming with images
of a woman
who once held his heart.

But he kept hers
locked up,
murdering her fire,
transforming her
love
to cold
resent
until the fire
within her
roared with
fierce freedom.

He looked back
once more
to a distorted view.
He did not see
the woman in
sight.

Instead,
he saw himself
become
all the things
he wished not to be.
